Jolt

The coding agent that tells you exactly what happened.

Jolt works in your terminal, then reports whether its answer was adopted, whether its work really stopped, and what changed when it did not.

brew install vendyluo/tap/jolt

macOS on Apple silicon. The release brings its own JDK 28.

Each task ends with one line: how long it worked, how many model calls and tools it ran, and the tokens in and out. The status line says whether the next task can be sent.

What it promises

  • Honest reports

A cancelled task says which model call was in flight, which tool was still running, which changes happened without being adopted, and whether shell processes survived. Every path:line the answer cites is checked against what the tools actually returned.

  • Access you choose, enforced by the OS

Read-only by default. workspace adds writing and a shell inside a macOS sandbox; full drops the sandbox.

  • Sessions that resume exactly

-c replays the provider transcript byte for byte. A -p task is saved before every model call, so an interrupted one goes on from before its last call, with the prompt cache still warm.

  • Claude, OpenAI-compatible or local

Anthropic’s Messages API, OpenAI’s Responses API or any compatible server, streamed; or Mirai’s uzu engine loaded into Jolt itself, keeping the model’s context between calls.

A session, or one task

jolt opens a line-mode session: native scrollback, a draft you can keep editing while a task runs, and Ctrl-C cancels only the running task. jolt -p runs one task for scripts and pipes, with the answer on stdout and the report on stderr. --json writes the run as JSON records, and --rpc serves a whole conversation to another program.

  • joltan interactive session in the current directory
  • jolt "explain the login flow"the same, with a first task sent at once
  • jolt -p "where are retries handled?"one task, then exit
  • jolt -p -a workspace "fix the off-by-one in pager.ts and run the tests"let it write and run the tests
  • git diff | jolt -p "review this change"standard input follows the prompt

Install

  1. On a Mac with Apple silicon, with Homebrew:

    brew install vendyluo/tap/jolt
  2. Give it a key, then start it in a project:

    export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=…
    jolt

The release includes its own JDK 28 (an early-access build until its GA in March 2027), so nothing else is needed; brew upgrade jolt updates it. Without a key the session starts anyway: /key asks for one, and /model switches the model.
